Hero Monument was built on November 10ᵗʰ,1951 and inaugurated by the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, on November 10ᵗʰ,1952. It is built to commemorate the historical battle in Surabaya, known as 10 November 1945 Battle, by the Indonesian Heroes to struggle for the independence of Indonesia.

The Sepuluh Nopember Museum was built on November 10th,1991 with an area of 1366 square meters at a depth of 7 meters under the ground in the area of Hero Monument, Pahlawan street, Surabaya to reinforce the existence of Hero Monument and to complete the historical facility. The museum was inaugurated on February 19th,, 2000 by the fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Abdul Rahman Wachid.
